Thought for the Week – 13 July

2015-07-13T08:19:52+02:00

“If nobody told you today they loved you… remember I do, and I always will.” – L. CliattWayman

These words transformed a dysfunctional school in America into a place where real education happens. They are the slogan of the headmistress and she lives them every day. In essence they are the words of Jesus just put differently. How would today be transformed for you if you heard Jesus saying these words to you? We need to be reminded of this fundamental truth all the time – because we live in a society which is so rushed it has forgotten what these words mean. Know that you are loved.

Thought for the Week – Trinity Term Week 9 (6 July)

Thought for the Week
“Allow more and more thoughts
Of Your thinking to come into our hearts,
Day by day,
Till there shall at last be an open road
Between You and us,
And Your angels may go up and down amongst us,
So that we may be in Your heaven,
Even while we are upon Your earth. Amen”
– George MacDonald (adapted)
This month we pray for the College Council.

Thought for Half-Term (Trinity Term)

2015-07-01T10:42:51+02:00

“May I be equal to your hope of me. If I am weak, I ask that you send only what I can bear. If I am strong, may I shrink from no testing that shall yield increase of strength or win security for my spirit.” – St Hilda
What does God hope of you and me? Can we be relied upon to act in that way? As we enjoy this week of Half-Term, let us reflect on how ready we are to stand up for God in our lives. May it be a week where we can grow our love for God and for those around us.
This month we pray for the College Council.

Thought for the Week – Trinity Term Week 8 (22nd June)

Thought for the Week
“Our most private room is that deep place within us, what we have been calling our centre. ‘There, indeed, our Father dwells.’ And we are invited to go to that centre, shut out all else, and abide there with our Father in prayer.” – Basil Pennington Call to the Centre
When we feel overwhelmed by life and the daily demands around us, it is good to know that there is a place we can go to in order to find peace. Deep within each of us is that place. In order for that place to become effective though, we need to visit it regularly and keep it clean of dust and cobwebs. There in that deep place we hear the small still voice of the Almighty Father, gently calling us to Him…
We continue to pray for the Senior College this month.

Thought for the Week – Trinity Term Week 7 (15 June)

God lavished good gifts on the world, and how we use those gifts determines whether or not they remain good and satisfying. Living a balanced life is like riding a horse, in that falling poses equal dangers on the left side or the right. Only if you stay in the saddle can you experience the thrill of riding. – Philip Yancey
May we stop ourselves from falling by clinging to His word in our lives and by living balanced lives – rest, prayer and work (and in that order according to St Benedict). And may our lives be filled with the joy of riding and not the fear of falling – filled with the knowledge of His loving hand holding us up rather than fear of Him punishing our mistakes.

“Do this in remembrance of me…” (Luke 22: 19)
This past week saw the Church celebrate the festival of Corpus Christi – where we remember the words and actions of Jesus at the Last Supper. Holy Communion is one of those areas which mark us out as belonging to the Body of Christ – the Christian Church. In this action we are not only bringing ourselves into the presence of Christ but are joining in with the Christian community throughout the ages who have remained true to His commandment. This sacrament is in place until the Lord comes again. It is an act of service above and beyond self – which is why so many people get confused in this day and age of instant gratification – which reaches into eternity. May we remain faithful to His call in our lives…
We continue to pray for the Senior College this month.
Have a blessed week!
